SUMMARY:Facing Shame with Empathy
DESCRIPTION:\nSpecial guest: Liv Larsson (Sweden)\n\n13:45-15:15 Why so much fuss around empathy?\nMagdalena Malinowska and Paulina Orbitowska-Fernandez\n15:30-17:00 Connection before correction\nJoanna Berendt and Paulina Orbitowska-Fernandez\n17:15-18:30 Shame – friend or foe?\nLiv Larsson (Sweden)\n\nHow do you deal with shame? What role can empathy play in dealing with difficult situations? While the notion of empathy is widely discussed today, shame can be a topic more difficult to approach, as it often triggers difficult sensations and avoidance patterns. \nDuring three consecutive sessions, we will explore both shame and empathy, seen through the lens of Nonviolent Communication (NVC). We are proud to present our special guest Liv Larsson, who will be giving the concluding lecture. The sessions are all in English, open to the public, and free of charge. \nFirstly, we invite you to a seminar guided by Magdalena Malinowska and Paulina Orbitowska-Fernandez on empathy seen as one of the basic concepts of Nonviolent Communication (NVC). During this seminar, you will get to know the main principles of NVC and its usage in everyday life.\nIn the following seminar, together with Joanna Berendt and Paulina Orbitowska-Fernandez, you will be able to look at the ways in which we communicate and how empathy can help us to do it in a more effective way.\nFinally we will dive into the subject of shame. This session will give you an idea of how the avoidance patterns can be recognized and used as a signal that we are not fully connected to the needs of ourselves and others. With the help of The Compass of Needs Liv Larsson will be guiding us in understanding how shame affects us.\n\nPlace: SWPS University, Chodakowska 19/31, Warsaw\nDate: 20.05.2019\nTime of the sessions:\n13:45-15:15 Why so much fuss around empathy?
