SUMMARY:Honesty First – Gabriel Stille
DESCRIPTION:If you have experienced the joy of feeling truly seen and heard, it is easy to fall in love with the power of empathy. As a budding practitioner of nonviolent communication, you might then want to spread your empathy far and wide. Then you might find that your offering of empathy also can be taken as a request – or demand – for opening up, in a way that doesn’t feel safe, dignified or even useful for the recipient. It can come across as a way to pry out secrets or to have your way in a manipulative fashion. And that’s not what you intended, right?\nIn this workshop, we look into how the saying “Empathy first” was meant to be taken, and when you better start with giving yourself, and the other, some honesty first. Honesty about why you approach the other and what’s in it for you. It can be a silent reality check, or a short verbal preamble. Part of this is also to work with the fear of your own honesty – and not hide behind the comfort of fully listening to another.\n[The workshop is organised in the frame of Time for Empathy 2025]\n\nWhen: 5 March 2025, 16:30-18:00 CET (Berlin time)\nHow: ONLINE on ZOOM\nRecording:\nMost workshops during “Time for Empathy” are not recorded, so the only possibility of participating is to join the session. The sessions that will be recorded, we will make available to others if the quality is satisfying. We may also use parts of the recording for marketing and publicity across various media.
