Fun and Play in challenging situations with adolescents or the elder – María Marta Suárez and Nanne Lotzkat
In this session, we will explore how we can step out of stuck communication settings when interacting with either our young or adolescent grand/children or our elderly grand/parents. We also hope educators will benefit from trying out new ways of connecting with their students.
After working on self-empathy and discovering which need/s of ours are involved in challenging situations, we will focus on how curiosity, playfulness and creativity can step into our interactions. Our hypothesis is that when we offer joy, fun and playfulness in “serious” conversations we can connect and find new strategies to fulfill our needs and those of the people we feel responsible for.
This session is open for beginners and experienced practitioners of NVC.
Most of the workshops during “Time for Empathy” are not recorded, so the only possibility to participate is to join the session. The sessions that will be recorded, we will make available to others if the quality is satisfying. We may also use parts of the recording for marketing and publicity across various media. If you do not wish to be recorded, switch off your camera and microphone for the whole duration of the session.
NOTE: Register only ONCE for the whole event and receive access to all “Time for Empathy” workshops organised between 3 and 10 March 2024.
About the trainers:
María Marta Suárez
I am a licentiate in English Language and Applied Linguistics. Since I was introduced to Nonviolent Communication in 1996, I have been studying and sharing its principles in schools and language academies. Over the years, my focus has been on supporting teachers, parents, and students in transforming the traditional educational paradigm of right and wrong into one based on constructive feedback. In the last few years, as I have embraced a lifestyle within a permacultural community near Buenos Aires, Argentina, I have been offering online support through empathic coaching and NVC-based healing role-plays. Through this process, which I call “Talk to their heart through mine”, I help adults who speak English, Spanish or Portuguese, to have more tools to engage in difficult conversations.
I am a freelance trainer and consultant accompanying people, groups and organizations to find better results. My special skill is helping people and groups to identify the obstacles that prevent them from giving their best and transforming them into resources.
Learning and teaching are important for me. Since leaving University as an economist I have continued to train, perfect and broaden my experiences to get the best results in groups. Nonviolent Communication, Systemic Constellations and Embodiment Practice based on U-theory are my main approaches.
I started my NVC learning in 1999 with Marshall Rosenberg and have learned from and practised with many great trainers since. (Laurence Reichler, Eva Rambala, Dominic Barter, Miki Kashtan and others). In 2003 I moved to Argentina, where I attended the first IIT there and participated in practice groups in Buenos Aires for many years. In 2020 I moved back to Germany. I have shared nonviolent communication in introductory workshops in different settings (general participants, schools, organizations), but mainly I use the concept in my daily life and work. For me, NVC is a powerful tool that helps me get through difficult situations workwise and in my personal life. But mostly it leaves me with an open heart and mind.
I work online and offline in English, Spanish and my native language German.
