Silent Empathy for the other Person - creating space within before reaching out – Irmtraud Kauschat

Silent Empathy for the other Person – Irmtraud Kauschat

In a conflict situation, self-empathy is the first step to connecting with myself and creating the capacity to reach out to the other party by self-expression or receiving them with empathy. At times, my capacity to receive the other person with empathy is not yet enough. I found it helpful to try to empathize with the person first in silence to check my capacity for receiving them. I invite you to explore this process in an exercise.

About the trainer:
Irmtraud KauschatIrmtraud Kauschat
I grew up in post-war Germany with guilt and shame about our history. NVC supported me to differentiate between guilt/shame and responsibility. It is out of this responsibility and being inspired by Marshall’s work that I chose to share NVC in regions of conflict like Israel/Palestine, Kenya, Ukraine and Somalia to support reconciliation and social change. It is important to me to contribute to a world where everybody’s needs matter, to get to know about the privileges I have and to be curious how I can use them in a collaborative way with people who have less access to resources.
