Compassionate impact digestion: choosing generous narratives – Marco Bertaglia
This workshop is inspired by the approach of ‘impact digestion’ developed by Miki Kashtan and others who are part of the Nonviolent Global Liberation Community.
In particular, we will focus on the role of what we tell ourselves about other people, which influences how we navigate conflicts and how compassionately we can connect with all parties involved in the conflict.
The main focus we will work on, based on each person’s experiences, will be ‘generous narratives’: consciously choosing the story I tell myself about the other person, with the specific intention of preserving their humanity, seeing their intentionality and nurturing the possibility of care. This approach invites us to choose such a narrative from a place within ourselves where we recognise the impact we have experienced – and want that it be recognised – in relation to what the other person has done or said, or has not done or said.
