Understanding Needs. A Map for Life - webinar with Joachim Berggren

Understanding Needs. A Map for Life – webinar

In a world of turbulence – wars, regional conflicts, climate crises, public health crises, polarised views, and even among the seemingly most peaceful people, NVCers, verbally fighting about how best to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion – how do we make sense of it all? How do we find direction, clarity, hope and purpose?
Our human experience is shaped by our needs – physical, emotional, intellectual, social, and spiritual. Addressing and fulfilling these needs is essential for our well-being and the quality of our lives. By cultivating awareness of our needs and consciously engaging with them, we support our personal growth – a growth that radiates outward, shaping relationships, communities, and society at large.
Drawing on the foundations of Nonviolent Communication and Integral Theory, Joachim Berggren invites you to explore a framework for understanding ourselves, others, and the world around us.
In this webinar, we will explore two fundamental movements of life:
– The horizontal movement of integration across areas of reality – how life expresses itself in all its dimensions.
– The vertical movement of evolution through needs – how consciousness grows and deepens.
Together, these movements form a living map of human fulfilment – a guide to transform awareness into inspired action and to evolve while embracing the wholeness of our shared humanity

Two models

The Quadrant of Needs is a model that illustrates the horizontal movement, integrating the four aspects of how needs exist in the world – within us, through us, between us, and around us. We express and fulfil needs in all four of these dimensions of reality. Awareness of how needs manifest across these areas brings clarity, insight, and direction for living a fulfilled and wholesome life.
The Level of Needs is a model that captures the vertical movement, describing the depth and richness of how needs are experienced and fulfilled. Needs first arise at more basic levels, gradually coming into awareness, and can be experienced more fully and deeply as our understanding, perspective, and capacity expand over time. Awareness of the level at which a need emerges provides insight into our motivations, supports conscious growth, and helps us respond to life in ways that are more aligned, effective, and fulfilling.
By integrating these two models, we gain a vibrant map of reality – one that not only reveals where our needs arise (horizontal), but also the depth and richness with which we experience them (vertical). This empowering perspective helps us meet our own needs with greater consciousness, support others with compassion, and create conditions for deeper understanding, connection, and well-being. More than a tool, it becomes a compass for transformation, a guide for growth, and a pathway to nurturing life in all its fullness.

Trainer:

Joachim Berggren
I work with groups and individuals who want to be able to communicate better and build sustainable connections in their family, with their friends, at their workplace and in the bigger community. I offer lectures, workshops, mediation and individual training online and in person. I came into contact with NVC in 2005 and in 2009/2010 I participated in my first annual program with Friare Liv (Liv Larsson and Kay Rung). I have participated in a wide range of NVC workshops both in Sweden and abroad. Since 2010, I have been sharing and teaching NVC myself. In 2017, I became a certified NVC trainer by CNVC. My main focus within NVC has been to teach the NVC fundamentals, community building and to organize major events, such as the European and the Swedish NVC festivals. What captivates my interest lately is how we humans develop both as individuals and groups and how this evolutionary drive affects our ability to learn and integrate NVC into our lives.
