Empathy. Q&A Session – Miki Kashtan and Isabel Ortega Caro
We believe that empathy for self and others is a very potent part of NVC practices because of its power to build connection. We are excited to explore more about it together during the “Time for Empathy” event. This is the second year we are offering a Q&A session during this conference, because we liked what happened last year. We invite you to come with any questions you have! For example:
-
Why do many of us sometimes not like it when others guess our feelings and needs?
-
Why is it sometimes so challenging to respond with empathy to what people say?
-
Why respond with empathy instead of just saying what’s true for us?
-
What happens when we are in a cultural context where feelings or needs are not welcome?
And if you are interested to get a deeper look at empathy and also have the capacity, we invite you to read from the Empathy for Self and Others: a Compendium packet, available based on gift, which can expand the range of questions you might want to ask.
About NGL
The purpose of the Nonviolent Global Liberation (NGL) Community is “to integrate nonviolence into the fabric of human life through ongoing live experiments with truth focused on individual and collective liberation.” Our central inquiry explores how to liberate ourselves individually and collectively from patriarchal conditioning and rediscover what it takes for humanity to realign with life. See https://nglcommunity.org/ for more information.
Miki Kashtan and other NGL members on the path towards CNVC certification will share about NVC from an NGL perspective. Miki will answer questions, facilitate the process of other people answering questions, and offer coaching on how to bring NVC to others – such as how you choose which bits to focus on, how much depth to go into and how much to potentially be with the person asking before answering.

About the trainers:
Isabel Ortega Caro: After being introduced to NVC in 2019 she joined the nonviolent activism movement Extinction Rebellion where she deepened her knowledge and an embodied experience of nonviolence. This inspired her to drastically change her life by co-founding an eco-village project in Italy where she lived for 3 years, and started to apply NVC in how to make decisions, flow feedback and engage with conflict in community.
