Support – Zoom Talk with Mireille van Bremen
Welcome to Week 24 of the Needs’ Year!
This week Joachim Berggren will have a conversation with Mireille van Bremen about the need of Support.
Mireille writes: Challenges in life, work and relationships, conflicts and upsetting conversations, are a major source of stress, frustration and pain and too often lead to separation, burn out and an unsatisfying career. Many people face these hardships in life. Often by themselves or without the accompaniment of an empathic person or support network.
Back in 2006 I emigrated from The Netherlands to Slovenia for love. Some years later I faced postnatal depression, an identity crisis and the start of a burn out while I was leading the design department of an advertising agency. Because of it, I immersed myself deeply in studying all the ins and outs of empathy and Nonviolent Communication, conflict coaching and mediation. I became resourceful in navigating the challenges in my life abroad, resolving conflicts, whether they were internal and related to my decisions, or external and relating to others. While I understand myself a lot better through empathy, I keep making new choices in anticipation on the needs that ask for my attention.
After I separated from my son’s father, I stayed in Slovenia out of love for our son. That separation meant we needed to resolve many issues – and we did, without one conflict. A year later I left work with a large burn out and needed almost a year to recover, while also slowly building up a visual empathy training and graphic recording business, The Visual Catalyst.
