EXPANDING THE NVC LENS

Expanding the NVC Lens – Free Webinar

An introduction to NVC Paradoxes

Nonviolent Communication offers a powerful lens for understanding ourselves, other people and conflict. Instead of getting caught in right and wrong, blame and judgment, we can become curious about the needs behind people’s actions.
But every lens brings some things into focus while leaving others at the edges of our view.
What happens when we turn the curiosity NVC has taught us towards NVC itself?

If there is no right or wrong, can it be wrong to believe that there is? If we want to move beyond judgment, can we become judgmental towards people who still make judgments? If everyone’s needs matter, does that mean every need should receive equal priority? And if we question hierarchy, does hierarchy actually disappear?
These are some of the questions behind NVC Paradoxes, a new series in which we explore ideas and assumptions that appear in NVC theory and culture.
In this introductory webinar, we will explore some of these paradoxes together. Through an Integral NVC (I-NVC) lens, we will examine what familiar NVC perspectives help us see, what they may leave out of view, and what might become visible when we expand the lens.
The intention is not to decide whether NVC is right or wrong – or to replace it with another set of answers. It is to build on what NVC has given us while remaining curious about its edges, contradictions and possibilities for further development.
You don’t need to agree with the questions. Curiosity is enough.
In this webinar, we will
  • explore some of the paradoxes found in and around NVC
  • take a closer look at a few of them together
  • experiment with looking at familiar NVC ideas through a wider lens
  • introduce Integral NVC (I-NVC) as a way of holding multiple perspectives
  • leave space for your questions, reflections and disagreements
This webinar also introduces the upcoming NVC Paradoxes workshop series. Each 90-minute workshop will explore one paradox in greater depth. You will be able to join individual workshops or participate as a member of Needs Space.
